Newborn sessions are a little trickier than your average family portrait session. They take longer and require more patience and perseverance. Usually, I bring an assistant with me because four hands are better than two. Can you imagine all of the things you could get done faster with four hands?!? For M’s session my usual friend and assistant wasn’t available so I went alone… It was slightly harder but all in all still a beautiful session.
The last two images were taken within thirty seconds of each other… It always amazes me, how quickly a new mother can soothe their crying baby: chaos to peace in only a moment. Thank you for a beautiful session. It was so lovely to meet your new family.
California Family Photographer | A Beautiful Mess

One of my best friends and fabulous California Wedding Photographer, Malissa Hutchings, is here for a lifetime. We grew up as neighbors and were close as children but, over time, distance came between us. Literal distance. Her family moved, then I left for college and we went several years without being a part of each other’s lives. We would get occasional updates on the other through our mother’s, but something changed a few years ago. Regardless of the time and distance that had come between us we had both ended up in the same profession!
I thought, “How simply amazing that someone who was such a big part of my childhood is following the exact same dream that I am.” It gave us an avenue to reconnect and I am so eternally grateful. In the past two years I have watched her family and business grow. I am proud to say that you, Malissa, are one of my best friends and I will be here for you for a life time. The last time I was in California we did a family session with her beautiful, chaotic, perfectly imperfect family.
This was the most fun I have ever had at a session. A gorgeous family to work with, beautiful morning light, and a creative mama who planned the whole thing. This family inspires me to be a better person everyday. Chicago Wedding Photographer | Life on the Farm
Cosmo and I traveled to Michigan to watch two of our close friends get married. If you are lucky enough to know Pat and Ellie (now) Mullins, you know that they are two of the most wonderful people in your life! They are so sincere, kind and just plain awesome. Their wedding took place at Pat’s family’s farm, Middlebrook Farm in Three Oaks, and it was just breathtaking. Not only was the venue and decor amazing, but the food was one of the best meals I have had in my entire life. Another round of applause to Team Hungrys, you guys rock! I am so thrilled that I was able to attend your beautiful day and that we have known you since the beginning. Congratulations again and I know you two will have a long, happy and successful marriage. I love you both and can’t wait to see you again soon!!!
Chicago Family Portraits | One, Two, Three…
One, two, three gorgeous children. I cannot even tell you what a wonderful family portrait session we had. The kids were adorable and there was so much love and kindness surrounding them. The kids got a new puppy the day before our session, I love puppies! The session was smooth and we worked hard. At the end everyone was tired and hungry, but it was absolutely worth it. Thank you so much for a lovely session, it was a joy to meet each of you!
Chicago Newborn Photography | A big little Bump
We had such a wonderful day capturing this little (big) guys newborn photographs. He was so adorable and chunky, definitely a favorite! We were able to get some super cute sleeping images and some shots with his wonderful parents. And check out his room! Not only did he have a gorgeous peek of the lake but his mom did an absolutely fantastic job decorating his nursery. I literally would have loved to just move in! Congratulations again and I can’t wait to see how fast Baby B will grow!
Chicago Photographer | E’s 1st Birthday!
So as you may know, I mainly photograph newborns and families, but I love mixing things up sometimes. I was so thrilled when one of my favorite Chicago families asked me to photograph their son’s first birthday. It is so much fun to be part of such a milestone. Marti and Neal, the owners of Lincoln Park’s newest community baby store Urba Baby, are so wonderful and know how to throw an amazing party. It was hosted at Kookaburra Play Cafe and they had everything from face painting to Storytime w/ Nili Yelin “The Storybook Mom.” Be sure to check out Nili at Urba Baby every 2nd and 4th Thursdauy at 10:30 am. Also, if you haven’t brought your kids to Chicago’s newest play cafe on Clybourn it is an absolute must! Seriously, a rockin’ first birthday!
